Routes Into Teaching

Getting In...

Your initial teacher training takes place once you have completed your first degree. There are one or two compulsory requirements you must meet. You will need to have a Grade C or higher in GCSE (or equivalent) English and mathematics; if you were born after 1st September 1979 and are considering primary teaching you will also need to have a Grade C or higher pass in a GCSE (or equivalent) science subject. In addition to this each ITT (Initial Teacher Training) provider has its own entry requirements which vary for school leavers or mature entrants. In nearly all cases however, an interview will be included in the screening process together with a scrutiny of your academic qualifications.
