Living in the South West

Air Travel and the South West

The South West is well-served for air travellers, with both Exeter and Plymouth served by airports, whilst Penzance also offers a helicopter service to the Isles of Scilly and fixed wing services via St. Just nearby, Bristol and Bournemouth also have airports offering national and international air links.

Exeter International Airport is located in the heart of the West Country, at the focus of an excellent communication network and is easily accessible to Devon , Cornwall , Somerset and Dorset .

The airport is situated off the A30, five miles east of the City of Exeter and just one and a half miles from the M5 motorway junction 29. Equipped with the shopping and catering facilities you would expect of a growing regional airport, Exeter's portfolio of destinations grows each year, making it an increasingly popular choice for both holiday and business travellers. Direct overseas destinations include the Algarve, Canada, Costa Del Sol, Crete, Cyprus, Gran Canaria, Ibiza, Innsbruck, Verona, Lanzarote, Majorca, Malta, Palma, Menorca, Rhodes, Tenerife, and Turkey. Internal flights can be taken directly to Birmingham , Dublin , Guernsey , Isles of Scilly, Jersey and Newquay.

Plymouth City Airport is a wholly owned subsidiary of British Airways, providing national and world-wide air links with the convenience of departures just four miles from the city centre. Flights across the UK , the Channel Islands , Ireland and Paris are available, whilst interconnecting flights via Bristol to a range of destinations are also available.

A small number of air services are operated from Newquay Airport , the link to London Gatwick being the most important. The Isles of Scilly largely depend on their links to mainland Cornwall.
